In a surprising partnership that challenges usual forecasts, the game developer has announced an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, offering complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Mission Revealed

According to the formal release, "A strange confrontation draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh quest, where whispers of forbidden ceremonies and terrifying transformations resonate through the darkness." The narrative presents a "strangely dressed woman named Ada" who tasks the characters with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to save her companion from a hidden cult.

The mission focuses on "strange experiments and a fearsome foe" and is available to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Familiar Places and Transformations

The preview showcases the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was formerly where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through ages. The trailer finishes with a powerful sequence showing a character, likely the hostage, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Items and Extra Content

Players who successfully complete the quest will acquire an unique katana alongside multiple artifacts secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also includes premium Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Exclusive weapons
• Survey Corps mount

Third Free Story Update

This release also brings the game's third complimentary story content, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted quest pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange characteristic techniques: Naoe introduces a theatrical interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a original environmental puzzle that may eventually clarify some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Past Japanese Animation Crossovers

This represents scarcely the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with popular anime properties. The series earlier showcased a 2020 crossover story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla informally included a quest that clearly nodded to the popular series One-Punch Man.
